Many people today have encountered financial
problems somewhere in their backgrounds. Often times these problems
seriously damage an individual. s credit. Even if all the proper
steps are taken to "clean up" the credit situation it can still take years
before a satisfactory credit report is attained.
This poses a serious problem to those who do not
wish to wait years to obtain a credit card. Although it
is very important to change the patterns of spending that led to
the problem initially there are still circumstances in which
individuals may wish to have credit available, such as emergency scenarios. The
question then becomes; is there a credit card for people with
bad credit? The answer to this question is yes.
Bad Credit Cards
There are literally thousands of available credit cards on the
market today. Although the credit card choices are somewhat limited
for people with bad credit there are definitely options available.
Let. s examine 2 different categories of bad credit cards.
- Secured Bad Credit Cards. These cards are also referred to as
pre-paid credit cards. As the names would suggest an individual
secures a certain amount of money up front. For example, if a
person pays the creditor $500 to use as a line of credit then they
could make purchases with the secured card for up to $500.
- Unsecured Bad Credit Cards. These cards are not backed up by
pre-paid money. They are used like a typical credit card. The
major difference is that the interest rates tend to be much higher
and there are often higher fees that are associated with bad
credit unsecured credit cards.
There are many companies today that offer credit cards for people
with bad credit. If the trend towards increased consumer credit
problems continues the industry should become even more competitive.
Competition usually results in better rates and more benefits. Once
a new bad credit card is attained the key is to use this resource
wisely. If used responsibly and paid in a timely fashion it can be a
good tool to help regain satisfactory credit.
